Museum Enrichment Series for All (M.E.S.A.): Black Loyalists of the North Shore

Join Lynn Museum & Arts Center on the second Wednesday of each month at noon for MESA (Museum Enrichment Series for All). This lecture series covers wellness, genealogy, and current events, featuring local experts, community members, Museum staff, and others.

You may be familiar with the work of artist, poet, photographer and public historian Christle Rawlins-Jackson.Christle is part of Sisters in Stitches whose work was recently on view as the Vessels of Slavery exhibit. Previously, Christle spoke at our February 2023 MESA about her family’s history as Black horse jockeys.  Now she joins us to share research she’s working on regarding Black Loyalist soldiers who fought for the British cause.

While roughly 9,000 brave Black soldiers fought for the colonies against the British cause, did you know the Black Loyalists numbered somewhere between 15,000-20,000? Why did so many choose the British side and what happened to them after the Revolutionary War ended?

This is a special edition of the M.E.S.A. program which celebrates Veterans Day and Revolution 250!
