Event Recap – Final Fridays: Art in the Park

‘Final Fridays’ began in July 2020 when Lynn Museum/LynnArts, Lynn Main Streets and the Downtown Lynn Cultural District teamed up with a wealth of local artists, gallerists and businesses to collaborate on an Art in the Park event with a mission of activating spaces in downtown Lynn through vibrant, arts and culture based programming, while lending support to, and shining a spotlight on, our small business community. These events are meant to highlight the value of arts and culture in Lynn and the need for future opportunities to bring the community together and support the local business scene.

Our June 2021 edition of Art in the Park featured a BIPOC Artist Salon, with multiple performances highlighting participants of Lynn’s Hip Hop Wall of Fame initiative and many visual and accessible platforms for guests to engage with. The event also highlighted the work of ‘Collective Imaginings Lynn;’ a local partnership between Lynn Museum/LynnArts and Creative Collective, intended to create a local BIPOC Artist Database as well as creative space and opportunity, inspired by community conversations, and supported through a Collective Imagination for Spatial Justice grant from New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA).

Visitors were encouraged to support their favorite downtown eatery and bring their purchases with them to enjoy in the newly-enhanced Lynn Museum/LynnArts Community Park while they enjoy the spectacular art and performances around them. An added element of community engagement was the creation of a beautiful chalk mural, implemented by Anna Dugan, giving visibility to the conversations expressing the need for local space and opportunity as well as a canvas for event participants and visitors to lend their own feedback to the charge of moving our creative community forward in a most supportive environment.
