Black History Month Craft: Make Your Own Invention and Patent

Since we can’t gather in person for our annual Free Family Day for Black History Month, we are bringing the celebration to you! Weekly crafts available for curbside pickup, virtual story time, and more.

Our second craft for the month: Make Your Own Invention and Patent!
Call 781-581-6200 to reserve your craft kits. Limit three craft kits per household.

Inspired by the work of Black inventors, Lewis Latimer and Jan Matzeliger, make your own invention using the materials provided (and maybe a few things around the house too!). Then patent your invention with the worksheet provided, drawing your creation and sharing the details on how it works.

Learn more about Lewis Latimer’s family, as well as Jan Matzeliger’s story, in our upcoming exhibition “Untold Stories: A History of Black People in Lynn”.
