M.E.S.A. featuring Towana Wright, Artist & Writer
Join Lynn Museum & Arts Center on the second Wednesday of each month at noon for MESA (Museum Enrichment Series for All). This lecture series covers wellness, genealogy, and current events and features local experts, community members, Museum staff, and others.
We are delighted to have Towana Wright, writer and artist, join us. She will discuss her latest creative project featuring The Douglass Family. The conversation will take place over Zoom.
About the project:
“My project seeks to illuminate the citizens of Lynn, MA, and the Northshore area in a fun way about the legacy of Frederick Douglass and his wife, Anna Murray-Douglas, and the importance of their presence in Lynn. This historical knowledge is of benefit to people of all racial, diverse backgrounds in that it fosters mutual respect and understanding, which leads to a better way of everyone living together.”
About Towana:
Towana Wright was born in Mobile, Alabama, and moved to Massachusetts as a young girl. The South and its culture inspire her work artistically.
She pursued a lifelong dream and attained an MFA in Creative Writing. She has participated in many prestigious workshops and residencies, including the CALLALOO Workshop Summer 2016 (Oxford University).
Towana taught herself how to paint during the Pandemic. Her local artist community has embraced her. For Towana, art is experimental. Art is escapism. Art is therapy.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Lynn Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
